In this episode of Big Broadway Energy, host Stephen Riordan sits down with Helen R. Murray, Producing Artistic Director at American Stage, to talk about her delightfully eccentric and deeply heartfelt new play, Weird in St. Pete.
💫 The play — part of American Stage’s Beyond the Stage series — celebrates the city’s strangest stories and most fascinating residents through immersive, promenade-style theater, performed at the stunning Duncan McClellan Gallery in St. Pete’s Warehouse Arts District.
Stephen and Helen dive into:
  • The inspiration behind Weird in St. Pete — including ghost stories, spontaneous combustion, and the legendary “Mystery Monkey of Tampa Bay.”
  • How St. Pete’s eccentric history reveals the heart of its community.
  • The creative process behind American Stage’s immersive productions.
