Injuries to major league baseball players seem to pile up by the minute. Imagine if the Tampa Bay Rays had Shane McClanahan this year. Maybe they could have made a run for a wild card spot. Or if the Yankees had Gerrit Cole all year. They would have likely won the Eastern Division title running away. Many local players had great careers cut short by injuries: Patrick Boyd (stress fracture), who "had all the tools"; Chris Coughlan, a Rookie of the Year, suffered shoulder and knee injuries; and Steve Giorgiadis not only had his career cut short by shoulder problems, but they led to his untimely death.
