WSET – The Wine & Spirit Education Trust.

Every year there are new crops of grapes and new wines to discover and enjoy. Each vintage is different but there are certain things that remain true, and this means that grape varieties and the wines made from them are recognizable from one year to the next.

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines focuses on these constants. How are grapes grown? How is wine made? How do sparkling wines get their bubbles? Above all else, though, this qualification looks at grape varieties and what they contribute to individual wines that are found throughout the world.

With that said, the focus of Level 2 are Grape Varieties and Still Wines. Today, I will share with you the White Wines we have studied as Part 1 to the WSET series of 3 podcasts. Part 2 covers red wines and part 3 covers other wines – sparkling and fortified. Now, let’s talk about the White Wines; Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Semillion, Furmint, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio/Gris, Gewurztraminer, Viognier and Albarino.
