What’s it really like when your coach is also your parent? Some people assume you’re getting all the favoritism, while others think you’ve got it harder than anyone else on the team. Growing up as a coach’s daughter, I’ve lived through the stereotypes, the whispers, and the pressure—but I also experienced the encouragement and freedom that shaped my love for the game. In this episode, I’m opening up about my story, plus giving players and parents practical strategies for navigating the tricky parent-coach dynamic without losing the joy of basketball.

🎙️ Episode 21: When Your Coach Is Your Parent: My Story and How to Navigate Parent-Coach Challenges

🔑 Episode Highlights:

  • The two biggest stereotypes about coach’s kids—and how to overcome them.
  • Why encouragement (not pressure) helps athletes stay motivated and love the game.
  • How players can build trust and respect when teammates assume favoritism.
  • Practical ways parent-coaches can balance fairness, leadership, and family love.

💬 Quote Worth Remembering:

“In 2025, being a junior coach is already tough enough to manage the drama. Add being a parent and it’s a downright atomic bomb.”
