The Enduring Legacy of Mwalimu Nyerere’s Visionary Leadership
Manage episode 483705862 series 2579885
Julius Kambarage Nyerere, fondly known as Mwalimu a Swahili word for "teacher", became Tanzania's first Prime Minister and later, its first President. His impact extended far beyond the political realm and his legacy cannot be confined within the borders of Tanzania. He was a staunch Pan-Africanist with influence in continental politics often described as moral rather than material. Established in 1996 during the twilight of Nyerere’s life, the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation (MNF) was formed to preserve and promote the values he had spent decades articulating and defending. Headquartered in Dar es Salaam, the Foundation champions peace, unity, equity, and ethical governance through dialogue, policy engagement, and research. Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is joined by Mzee Joseph Waryoba Butiku, the Chairperson of Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation.
