The Oregon State Beavers football program has made a major change, firing head coach Trent Bray on Sunday, October 12, 2025, according to multiple reports. The decision comes after the Beavers' disappointing 0-7 start to the 2025 season, which marks the program's worst start since 1991. Bray, an Oregon State alum and former defensive coordinator, was promoted to head coach in November 2023 following the departure of Jonathan Smith to Michigan State. His total record as head coach concludes at 5-14 in 19 games. The final straw was a 39-14 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday. Key Firing Details: Final Record: 5-14 overall (1-13 in his last 14 games). Trigger: Loss to Wake Forest dropped the team to 0-7 in the 2025 season. Buyout: The university reportedly owes Bray $3.6 million for the remainder of his contract. Interim Coach: Assistant Robb Akey is expected to be appointed the interim coach for the remainder of the season. The firing signals the end of a difficult tenure for Bray, who inherited a program facing major transition, including roster challenges following the splintering of the old Pac-12 conference. Athletic Director Scott Barnes, who initially hired Bray, is now tasked with leading a new search for the next permanent head coach.
