Emily hosts Matt and Jacqueline for Week 5 of our Unbound Book Study: "I Renounce in The Name of Jesus."

Speaking renunciation is crucial because “It gets you out of your own head,” says Matt. It declares a verbal end to lies and negative influences and creates accountability, providing a "feedback loop" to hear your expressed will. It is participating in God's creative act by saying "no" to darkness and "yes" to light.

Praying in Jesus’ name means communion with His person and will, remembering our identity in Him. We invoke His mighty name as we take a stand against our enemies, calling upon His victory on the cross and the reality of that victory. We say, “I am done with this,” because He has made it possible.

Healthy introspection is reflective as we bring our experiences to God in prayer. Excessive introspection is self-directed and agenda-driven, not Spirit-led, and can lead to confusion and despair.

Many times, the things we are renouncing are so “normal” to us. However, we realize in a new way that we don’t want to live with these things anymore. Healing is a process, deepening our intimacy and trust in God who is the Great Physician!

Some fun trivia: Can you guess what drink of choice Jaqueline, Matt, and Emily each would opt for when sitting with a group of friends and doing a book study? Listen and find out!

Warm-up question for Chapter 6: How comfortable are you with the concept of spiritual authority, and what experiences have shaped your understanding of it?
