Randy Smith is a PGA Golf Professional and a member of the PGA of America's Hall of Fame. He is the all-time leading PGA of America National Award winner, with 18 awards including the 1996 PGA of America Professional of the Year.

Currently the Royal Oaks CC (Dallas) Golf Professional Emeritus and the Director of Instruction, Randy still gives lessons to golfers of all skill levels. His most notable student being World #1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler.

Randy joins #OntheMark (for a second time) to share his wisdom and insight on the game of golf. In this episode he shares how Scottie Scheffler approaches the game and how the Fundamentals of Golf set the table for consistent performances. Randy elaborates on a number of game improvement concepts including:

  1. Taking ownership of what you do
  2. Dealing with student's emotions
  3. Sticking to the task at hand and not getting waylaid by other information
  4. The fundamentals of golf - Grip, Alignment and Posture - and their importance
  5. Control of the clubface and understanding the influence of the "bottom hand"
  6. The 3 "Entry Points" into the golf-ball, and
  7. Swinging the weight of the clubhead.

He also shares nuggets on how Scottie Scheffler plays incl.:

  • How Scottie managed his technique while growing up and undergoing growth spurts
  • Scottie's focus on the grip and the clubface
  • How Scottie manages the golf-course and his decision-making, and
  • Scottie's balance and foot work.
