Pilot Deke Gannett owns an old Stinson airplane and makes his living by giving his customers a short plane ride, for three dollars each. There wasn't much business in Missouri, but he had better luck in Kansas. He visited a couple of smaller towns where a plane is still a fancy contraption. About 50 miles east of Wichita, he landed his plane in a grass field outside the town of Willing, hoping a day or so here, would provide enough to buy a new tire for the right wheel. Deke sees a farmer standing nearby and says "Hello there. Is this your field?" Farmer says "Say, that was pretty. Coming down out of the sky like that, I've seen you from a long way". Deke says "You like planes, huh?" Farmer says "Sure do. Yep, this is my field". Deke says "Well, look, I'd like to make a deal with you. I'll be here for a couple of days. Let me keep the plane here and I'll give you five bucks". Farmer says "Well...." Deke says "And a free ride". Farmer says "Mister, you got a deal. My name is Bill Maydew, let's shake on it." Deke put up posters in the town, and by 6 o'clock that night he made 36 dollars. He put the plane in Maydew's barn and asked him "Is there any place I can stay tonight?" Bill says "See that flying red horse sign over there? Across the street is Maydew's Willing Hotel. Deke say "Yours, huh?" Bill says "It ain't fancy, but it is restful. Got a city woman staying there, down from Kansas City". After dinner that night, Deke meets the lady from Kansas City, Miss Phyllis Naylor. She hires Deke to fly her to Wichita in the morning. Once they are up in the air, she says "How much would you want to fly me to Mexico?"
