It is Friday, December 10th and cold in Los Angeles. Sergeants Joe Friday and Ben Romero are working the day watch out of robbery detail. It was 7.55 A.M. when Friday and Romero got to room 27A, Robbery Detail. There they met with Officer Frank O'Donnell. Friday asks "Frank, what are you doing here so early? Can't you sleep?" Frank says "I'm waiting for something. A special delivery from my brother". Friday asks "The one in San Francisco who works for the police department?" Frank says "Yeah, my brother told me he was sending down some information on four pretty rough characters. He thinks they're headed our way, sending mug shots too". Ben asks "Are you and your brother running a detective agency on the side?" Frank says "It's a little irregular. The official correspondence will come a little later". At 10.15 A.M., the special delivery letter came for Frank. He opened the letter with a pocket knife and took out four mug shots and information. Frank says "Here it is. Following four men wanted for robberies, auto thefts, and safe burglaries in the San Francisco Bay Area. Cliff Small, age 19, George Shum, age 20. Both escaped from Preston Reform School. Julius Carver, age 18, and Fred Malick, age 20. The last two are army deserters.
