Deputy Martin Kenny stressed that the government cannot continue to stand idly by while so many households are struggling and reiterated the need for energy credits as part of a cost-of-living package in this year's budget.

The number of people in energy arrears had hit a new record of 301,379.

Of the 300,000 in arrears, over 176,449 have been in arrears for over 90 days, which is another record high with the total value of the arrears was at €466.46, up 49.8% since January 2022.

Deputy Kenny has accused the government of abandoning pre- election promises they made on this issue just over twelve months ago.
