Cadillac Lyric premium SUV – underdone for this price point
Manage episode 496886513 series 2343685
Driving the Cadillac Lyric SUV today – General Motors luxury brand arriving back
in our market after a long hiatus despite several attempts by Holden some 17
years ago to introduce the Cadillac CTS sedan. The Lyric however, Cadillac’s first
electric model is a handsome large SUV, an all-wheel-drive dual motor luxury SUV
with strong performance and with an official range of 530km – two models with
the same powertrain, the Lyric Luxury at $122,000 and the Lyric Sport for another
$2,000. Price levels where there is some significant and excellent European
competition with a proven track record. Step inside the Lyric and it feels
underdone for a vehicle at this price point, roomy but with materials and seating
that don’t exude luxury. Performance in a straight line impressive but once you
point this 2.7 tonne SUV into some fast-moving corners it lacks polish and
sophistication. To me the torsional rigidity of the body also feels underdone, best
demonstrated on my steep driveway, which has a twist at the top - such that I
could not open the power rear door until the car returned to a level surface.
Certainly, there’s much to like with the Cadillac Lyric but unfortunately it does not
extend to its on-road dynamics.
