This week on the @Monday_Mile_Series I’m joined by a man championing for #bluehealth, @wavemakernick
Today we’re in Bristol, linking up with a man who, 12 years ago, had a big dream. A vision of how to bring a slice of the ocean, in land for more people to access it. Nick founded The Wave in 2012, the first inland surfing destination in Bristol, with sustainability and accessibility at the heart and the aim to bring year-round consistent surfing to both beginners and experts.
This week we discuss The Wave, his vision behind the project and how incredible it has been to watch it grow into something that so many people love.
He explains how he’s worked with the adaptive community from the beginning to ensure the whole place is accessible and that those with disabilities or cultural barriers, who previously wouldn’t be able to surf, now have the ability to do so. ‘Where are the barriers and how can we break those down, that’s what we’re about’
Nick also opens up about having a stroke, how terrifying it was and how it lead to where he is today.
It was so interesting hearing more about the project and getting to see it for myself was just breathtaking. An extraordinary guy with an extraordinary story!
