Manage episode 489326233 series 3381925
On June 17, the State Duma passed legislation in its final reading imposing limits on the use of non-Russian languages on public signage. The law stipulates that all signs, markers, and information boards in stores and public places must be written in Russian, while permitting other languages to appear in duplicate alongside the Russian script. Additionally, the legislation requires real estate developers to use only Cyrillic script in the names of new residential complexes and construction projects.
Olga Kazakova, head of the State Duma's Committee on Culture, stated that the new regulations will not apply to brand names and trademarks, which are protected by law.
Once adopted by the Federation Council and signed by President Putin, the law would take effect on March 1, 2026.
