Vologda Governor Georgy Filimonov has dismissed Yulia Shevtsova, head of the region’s Nyuksensky district, after her daughter posted a video in which she threatened to have a young man sent to fight in the war in Ukraine.
“Shevtsova is being dismissed due to a values-based incompatibility between her daughter’s actions and the rules, principles, and ideology of the Vologda regional government,” Filimonov wrote on Telegram, adding that he had made the decision after a “pragmatic and objective analysis of the situation.”
He noted that the new head of the district would “very likely” be a veteran of the war in Ukraine. Filimonov also advised Shevtsova to “spend more time on her daughter’s upbringing, enroll her in nursing courses, and perhaps arrange a volunteer internship at a military hospital in the rear.”
The incident stems from a video posted several days earlier by Shevtsova’s daughter on TikTok, in which she appears to threaten a young man with forced conscription. The caption read: “Who do you think you’re messing with, sucker? Do you know who my mom is?)) Mayor! (We’ll send you to the SVO).”
After the video drew public attention, Shevtsova issued an apology, saying that “children make mistakes.”
Shevtsova had held the post of district head since late October 2024.
