Security guards working in Emergency Departments are hoping to get more powers to handle rising aggression.

The Security Association says verbal and physical violence towards hospital staff has been growing across the board.

It's reporting more frequent aggression and more use of weapons, like knives.

NZ Security Association CEO Gary Morrison joined the Afternoons team to explain further.
