Many of us are familiar with Jesus' words in John 14:6, where He identifies Himself as the way, and the truth, and the life, and stating that no one comes to the Father except through Him We usually apply this verse evangelistically when preaching the gospel to unbelievers. And while this is a truth that non-Christians should hear, we must understand that in context, this verse is spoken to believers (the disciples). So what was Jesus communicating to the disciples when He said these words, and what would they have meant to them (and us by extension)?
