The relationship between drinking water consumption and changes in body weight and waist circumference over two years in an elderly Mediterranean population with metabolic syndrome. Findings indicated that higher water intake was associated with greater reductions in body weight and, in higher consumption categories, with a larger decrease in waist circumference. Furthermore, the study suggests that replacing calorie-containing beverages like alcoholic drinks, soups, and dairy beverages with water was theoretically linked to greater weight loss. The authors conclude that drinking water may be inversely associated with adiposity changes in this population and could be a valuable part of weight management strategies.
