Matt Payne is a fine art landscape photographer, mountaineer, and the voice behind the influential podcast F-Stop Collaborate and Listen. Based in Durango, Colorado, Matt is known for capturing remote, high-altitude scenes throughout the state—many from his adventures summiting all of Colorado's Fourteeners and the highest 100 peaks. His striking prints reflect not only technical mastery but also a deep reverence for nature's raw and challenging beauty.

In this episode, Matt recounts the origins of his podcast, sparked during a creative rut in 2017. What began as a personal project evolved into a vital platform for open dialogue in the photography world. He discusses balancing the demands of podcasting with his own photographic journey, the role of passion in sustaining creative output, and the ongoing battle with imposter syndrome that many artists face.

Matt offers a preview of his upcoming book—a blend of photography, storytelling, and social psychology—that aims to elevate conversations around image-making. He also emphasizes the importance of authenticity, community, and carving a meaningful space in a saturated field.

I hope you enjoy the show!
