The leaders of a call center based outside of Reading are accused of running a bait-and-switch scheme to sign up tens of thousands of customers in bare-bones health plans that they claimed were full coverage. U.S. Attorney David Metcalf said in some cases, the plans that the Bene Market Group was selling “were not even insurance.” The flimsy coverage left some customers with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debt. Former Bene Market Group CEO Arthur Walsh said his salespeople didn’t mislead customers. Prosecutors called 42-year-old Alan Redmond the “de facto” boss of the alleged scheme.
