In 2015, Plains All American's oil pipeline, carrying oil from the offshore Santa Ynez Unit, ruptured along the Gaviota Coast. The spill spread across 150 miles of California's coast, killing wildlife, harming residents, and hurting the economy. The initial rupture occurred because of a flawed pipeline design and inadequate pipeline management, leading to a catastrophic rupture. Now, the new owner and operator, Sable Offshore Corp, is attempting to restart the same pipelines without effective corrosion prevention. With the potential for another oil spill looming, community members are fighting back against Sable to protect vital natural resources and the coastline. With several legal fights underway, Mavis Holley has the story.
