Dave concludes our series on Mark by preaching on Mark 13: 24-36.

In response to the disciples’ questions about the destruction of the temple and the “end of the age”, Jesus contrasts his birth in Bethlehem with his future coming in glory and power.

Dave talks about how, in the end times, there will be signs of His coming, such as natural disasters like wars and earthquakes and universal persecution of Christians, but that Jesus will return visibly and gloriously and angels will gather believers from every corner of the earth.

Crucially, though, no-one knows the exact time of His return. Like signs of summer or a baby’s birth, we can see indicators but we can’t pinpoint the day.

Dave reminds us that, as believers, we must stay awake and ready. Jesus’ coming shouldn’t surprise us if we live expectantly whereas for unbelievers, it will be a shocking interruption.

He encourages us to persevere in faith through the troubles that life throws at us and prepare our lives as though Jesus could return at any moment.
