Your Daily Prayer 🙏🏾 Luke 10:37
Real love reaches out to those in need regardless of who they are.
FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT ACTION: HUMILITY
Write a thank-you note or text to someone who's impacted your life.
Today’s daily devotional focuses on the story of the Good Samaritan, where Jesus illustrates the true meaning of kindness and neighborly love through a parable. A Samaritan, despite being despised, helps a man in need when others do not. This story challenges us to redefine who our neighbors are and how we can show kindness.
STORY
Bible in a Year: The Good Samaritan
Scripture
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
Luke 10:37
Have you ever wondered who your true neighbor is?
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus teaches us a profound lesson about kindness and compassion. A man is robbed, beaten, and left for dead on the road. Both a priest and a Levite, respected figures in society, see the man but choose to pass by without helping. It is a Samaritan, someone despised by the Jews, who stops to help. He tends to the man’s wounds, takes him to an inn, and ensures his care.
What does this story tell us about how we view and treat others?
The Samaritan’s actions challenge societal norms and prejudices. He didn't consider the injured man’s background; he saw a person in need and responded with compassion.
How often do we let preconceived notions influence our willingness to help others?
Jesus’ parable pushes us to rethink our definition of a neighbor. It’s not about proximity or similarity, but about the willingness to show love and mercy to anyone in need.
Are there people in your life you overlook because they don't fit your idea of a neighbor?
The Good Samaritan story teaches us that true neighborly love transcends societal boundaries. It calls us to act with compassion regardless of our differences. As we go through our daily lives, let’s be mindful of opportunities to extend kindness to those around us.
Who can you be a Good Samaritan to today?
REFLECTION
Reflect on your own attitudes and actions toward those around you.
Are there people in your life you avoid or ignore because they are different from you?
Take time to examine your heart and challenge those biases. Seek to be a neighbor to everyone, especially those who are hurting and in need of compassion.
PRAYER
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
LUKE 10:37
Open the eyes of my heart so that I will be able to come to the aid of my brother and sisters in Christ. Break off all prejudices and cultural stigmas that may be attached to my mind both knowingly and unknowingly. Give me the strength, Lord, to break through cultural boundaries, like Jesus, to show the love and kindness You have and think towards them. Like the story of the good Samaritan, I will not wait for convenience to be a resource and outlet of hope. I also thank You in advance for providing all the provision needed to adequately serve those in need. You’ve commanded me to love my neighbor as I love myself, therefore first increase the love I have for myself so that I can increase the love for those all around me. I declare that others are valuable because I'm valuable. I declare that they have worth because I have worth. I declare that they are called to greatness because You have called me to greatness God. With these truths as anchors to my soul I will help build the lives of those around me because You are building my life within me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏🏾
