Sacramento County DA Investigates Former CapRadio GM

After more than a year, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has submitted its investigation into former CapRadio General Manager Jun Reina for potential criminal charges. The case, which includes potential criminal charges of embezzlement and grand theft, is being reviewed by the county District Attorney’s Office. A team of CapRadio journalists have been reporting on the public media station independently since a September 2023 audit by the California State University Chancellor’s Office found years of significant financial mismanagement at CapRadio, an auxiliary of Sac State. It also came a month after CapRadio laid off staff and canceled four music shows. CapRadio Politics Editor Chris Nichols and CapRadio Senior Producer Sarit Laschinsky join us with an update.

New Exhibition ‘Conspire to Inspire’

There’s a lot of power in art, from paintings to photography. It can inspire, question, reflect current events and support a charitable cause. This weekend a one-day exhibition inspired by park and underground culture is coming to Sacramento. Called “Conspire to Inspire,” the exhibition will be held at the Sol Collective art gallery in Curtis Park Saturday, Sept. 20 starting at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Sacramento Valley Tenants Union. Two of the creative minds behind the exhibition, punk collage artist Winston Smith and photographer Matthew Kadi, talk about how this show came to be, and what inspires both of their work.

Remembering ‘Ground Chuck’

The Sacramento Arts scene is remembering Charles “Ground Chuck” Thomas, a well-known artist, musician and “man about town” who inspired the city’s Chalk It Up festival. He passed away Sunday at the age of 56. More than a decade ago, he joined then-Insight host Jeffrey Callison for a conversation about his comedy and the metal band he was part of at the time. We’ll listen back to a 2009 Insight interview with Ground Chuck.
