How Prop 50 Would Split the 1st Congressional District
In less than two months, voters will decide whether to redraw California’s congressional maps, in a redistricting fight with Texas to gain a political edge in the Midterms. We’ll hone in on one map in Northern California that would transform a Republican stronghold into a sprawling district that combines Bay Area liberals in Marin County with rural Modoc County residents hundreds of miles away. CalMatters Capitol Reporter Jeanne Kuang discusses the big changes that could come to California’s 1st Congressional District if Prop 50 passes on Nov. 4.CalMatters is a nonprofit newsroom that partners with public media stations across the state.
Cold Case Podcast on Woodland Murder of Dolores Wulff
In 1979, Dolores Wulff disappeared from her home in Yolo County, kicking off a decades-long mystery. For more than 40 years, questions circled around what happened to the Woodland mother and wife, with family members convinced that her husband Carl was responsible for her disappearance. Dolores’ remains weren’t identified until 2020, and her story is being highlighted in a new podcast called ““The Unforgotten Season 3: Finding Dolores Wulff” which also talks about the impact on her family, and why it took so long to find her. Kyle Bonagura and Adam Rittenberg are ESPN reporters who covered the story shortly after Dolores was identified, and co-host the new podcast.Lost Gold Rush Towns of Sacramento
The Gold Rush brought booms and busts to many communities around California, with some miners striking pay dirt and others losing everything. Ghost towns dot the landscape of the west, but in Sacramento many of those Gold Rush communities have been lost to time. A new book titled “Lost Gold Rush Towns of Sacramento” was published earlier this year by the Sacramento Public Library, and is telling the stories of some of those towns. Co-authors Eric Webb, Andrew McLeod and James Scott talk about how this book came to be, and what these Gold Rush stories can tell us about the stories and histories that are told or forgotten.92 episodes
