The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament is considered by many to be one of the most historically significant buildings in Sacramento. When it opened in 1889, thousands of people traveled from all over Northern California to see what was then the largest church west of the Mississippi. Since its inception, the Cathedral has served as a home for the Catholic Church in Northern California, as well as a community space dedicated to arts and culture. Art and music will combine in the Cathedral this Friday when The Brubeck Brothers, with Joe Gilman on piano, perform Dave Brubeck’s To Hope! A Celebration on July 11. Proceeds from this event will go toward refurbishment of art in the Cathedral. Oscar Ramirez is the lead docent at the Cathedral and he joins us to talk about the art and history of the building.83 episodes
