CA Governor Updates

California marked its 175th anniversary of statehood with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s State of the State address, where he addressed issues like education, climate and affordability while criticizing federal policies. At the same time, attention is shifting to who might replace him. On Monday candidates for governor took the stage at Sacramento State University for a forum that gave candidates an opportunity to attract voters. CapRadio Politics Editor Chris Nichols joins us to break down the governor’s message and the early dynamics of the race to succeed him.

Camp Resolution Documentary ‘The Right to Exist’

Just over a year ago the unique, self-governed homeless encampment known as Camp Resolution was closed by the city of Sacramento, putting dozens of people in temporary shelters or back on the street. But the story of this encampment, which gained widespread attention as a new approach to addressing the crisis of homelessness, and its residents lives on in the documentary The Right to Exist. Director Nick Anderson and co-producer Arturo Baiocchi talk about Camp Resolution’s lasting legacy and the state of homelessness intervention, ahead of a free screening and panel discussion tonight at 6 p.m. at the Student Union at Sac State.

Another screening and panel will be held Sept. 18 at the Unitary Universalist Society of Sacramento, benefitting Loaves and Fishes.
