Authority vs Confidence.

What is Authority?

What is Confidence?

Both are important but easily confounded and misused.

What is the main difference between being an authority in the streaming space and just being confident.

Many streamers confuse confidence with authority. Ego isn't responsibility.

Taking leadership positions means taking responsibility.

What it doesn't mean is you are the final authority. It means you are willing and actively taking this position and humility goes a long way.

....

This framework/mindset/worldview positions your relationship to difficult areas of streaming.

Who is in charge of your content?

Who is responsible for your growth?

Who is responsible for your stream?

viewers/community/chat isn't the streamer nor the stream.

....

Rules and Boundaries are important:

Twitch's rules go REALLY far already. You set the tone for what else is and is not allowed in your stream.

it's your space, your virtual room, your party...

If you don't allow shoes in the house, then you give leeway to one person, it can make everyone else feel uncomfortable and you lose face/authority with your own community. Be consistent.

....

Authority is best used through meekness.

What is meekness? Jordan Peterson translates it to means a willingly sheathed sword... or more accurately a solider who has his sword sheathed.

It's the person who is Strong/dangerous and has it completely under control. Like a sword in it's sheath. Be dangerous and powerful like sword, but keep it under control. Practice being meek. Approach toxic behavior with grace and kindness, be strong enough to take them down without allowing chat to also become toxic.
