Commentary after commentary has been arguing that there’s a rift between the United States and Israel, especially since removing Mike Walz as National Security Advisor, certain backs-and-forths over nuclear negotiations with Iran, and President Trump’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia.
Such speculations are overblown.
First, President Trump is the president of the United States., not Israel—and the threats to each country are different; so too should be the strategies. Trump has righted the alignments to tell Israel it should do what it has to—to protect itself; and likely the United States will benefit. Similarly: the United States will do what it has to do in our relations and antagonisms with Iran; and likely Israel will benefit. Second, Trump has renewed his push expanding the Abraham Accords when he was in Saudi Arabia. Third, bringing Saudi Arabia in from the cold is an additional bulwark against Iran.
Finally: look to the advisors most relevant to Israel: Huckabee, Rubio, Hegseth—and Walz at the UN. Israel first for Israel, America first for America—and that’s what’s going on.
