Bio:
An Empowered woman who empowers women!
Christella Ilunga is a 30 year old social activist and educator from Congo, Kinshasa. Although she prefers to be behind the scenes, she has learned that her true power lies in being in the forefront as a leader and a speaker. She believes that education, resources, and community based interventions are the solutions for many problems that our world faces today.
With the heart for change and equality she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island. She went on to continue her education earning a Master's in Elementary Education at Grand Canyon University. Christella felt her efforts in the classroom were not as effective due to behavioral challenges that students faced in the classroom. Having over seven years of experience in the behavioral health field and education field combined she chose a different path than teaching.
She believes that social emotional learning increases student success rates. “When a student is well they do well.” Setting students up for success by teaching them the keys necessary to overcome social emotional challenges is just as important for them as growing in their academics.
In her lifetime she has come across so many intelligent individuals who were plagued with behavioral issues which limited their ability to succeed academically. Once their behavioral needs were met tremendous improvements were made academically. She believes in working smarter and not harder. She also believes in equity, the ideal that everyone should get what they need to help them succeed. This looks different for everyone but no one person is exactly the same. She celebrates diversity and appreciates the differences brought from different backgrounds and cultures in each space she finds herself.
