Signal Space: A New Permanent Gallery for Digital and Transmedia Art in Prague
Manage episode 509307613 series 3607010
In this episode of Global Economic Press, Alex Brady delves into the innovative world of digital and transmedia art with the opening of Signal Space, Prague's first permanent immersive art gallery. Situated in the city's historic Neo-Renaissance Market Hall, Signal Space is set to become a groundbreaking platform for digital exploration and artistic expression. The gallery is the result of over a decade of dedication by artists who have been at the forefront of this movement, beginning with a video-mapping project on Prague’s Astronomical Clock in 2010. This project inspired the creation of the Signal Festival, a light art festival that attracts over 500,000 visitors annually, and ultimately led to the establishment of Signal Space.
Signal Space's inaugural exhibition, Echoes of Tomorrow, explores how visions of the future shape the present, featuring eight artworks that challenge perceptions and invite contemplation. Highlights include Shohei Fujimoto's intangible #form, Playmodes Studio's Signes, and Quayola's Fighters. Beyond the exhibition, Signal Space will host a vibrant program of activities, including DJ sets, live performances, and lectures, such as a notable talk on creative coding by Zach Lieberman. The gallery also features Signal Playground, an interactive space for children and families to explore digital art and technology. Echoes of Tomorrow runs until March 2026, setting the stage for Signal Space's future exhibitions. For more information, visit Signal Space's website.
