This episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast takes us into the world of Apple TV+’s Emmy-nominated comedy 'The Studio', with supervising sound editor and sound designer George Haddad.

Created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, The Studio has quickly become one of Apple’s biggest comedy hits, renewed for a second season and breaking records with 23 Emmy nominations, the most ever for a freshman comedy. The series stars Rogen as Matt Remick, the panicked new boss of Continental Studios, alongside Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders, with cameos from some of Hollywood’s biggest names.

George discusses how his love of sound began with Star Wars, what it takes to wrangle the wall-to-wall dialogue of The Studio, and how comedy demands a very different sound approach compared to drama. He also shares stories from sneaking around Warner Bros. with a microphone, the Golden Globes episode, and his past work on shows like Gotham and Taylor Sheridan’s Landman.

Time Stamps (approx.):

00:00 – Intro & George’s path into sound via Star Wars

05:30 – Joining The Studio and the early conversations with Seth & Evan’s team

09:00 – The challenges of long one-shot episodes and heavy improvisation

13:00 – Comedy sound design vs drama, and protecting the punchline

17:00 – The Golden Globes episode and recreating award show ambience

21:00 – Sneaking onto the Warner Bros. lot for authentic ambience

24:00 – Comparing The Studio with Gotham and superhero soundscapes

26:00 – Working on Taylor Sheridan’s Landman
