Folks, I'll admit - I can sometimes get a little carried away jumping on the latest HR tech hype train. And AI has been hyped up immensely as a silver bullet to transform our field.

But recently, I took a step back to dive deeper into the EU's proposed Artificial Intelligence Act and its implications. This sweeping legislation aims to pass by end of 2023 and regulate how companies can deploy AI.

The EU recognizes dangers of unfettered AI in high-stakes HR areas like hiring and performance reviews. Their framework mandates transparency, testing for bias, and human oversight of AI decisions.

Responsible AI governance presents challenges. But it's also a chance to embed ethics into the foundations of HR technology.

Yes, AI hype still outpaces reality. As leaders, we must ensure algorithms uplift work for all - not undermine human dignity.

I’m optimistic about AI’s potential, but sober about the risks. Let’s keep discussing how HR can responsibly shape an intelligent yet human future of work.
