In his books The Strange Death of Europe and The Madness of Crowds, Murray argues that Western societies have lost confidence in their values, history, and identity. He suggests that this cultural self-criticism—often expressed through movements focused on colonial guilt, systemic racism, and identity politics—creates a paradox: Western nations invite immigrants to integrate, yet simultaneously portray their own culture as morally bankrupt or “rotten.”
