At a Turning Point USA event on October 29, 2025, held at the University of Mississippi, Vice President JD Vance called for a significant reduction in legal immigration. Responding to a student’s question, he stated, “We have to get the overall numbers way, way down,” citing concerns about assimilation and national cohesion. He argued that the current volume of immigration—both legal and illegal—was too high for American society to absorb effectively, saying, “You’ve got to allow your own society to cohere a little bit, to build a sense of common identity”
