S2E186 – The Breath of Yggdrasil. Breathe with me beneath the World Tree. Yggdrasil drinks from three wells: Urðr where the past is woven, Mímir where deep knowing rests, and Hvergelmir where Níðhöggr gnaws at the roots. The trunk holds the present; the crown casts itself into what may yet become. Tonight we take this myth as a map for steadier moods and clearer minds: roots as body-memory and interoception, trunk as calm regulation, crown as choice and vision. Breath is our Bifröst—the bright bridge between states.
Practice the Yggdrasil Breath in nine cycles: three for roots, three for trunk, three for crown. Use a 4–2–6 cadence (inhale four, hold two, exhale six), adjusting gently to your capacity. For the roots, whisper: “Roots drink. I belong. Release.” For the trunk: “I rise. I am held. I soften.” For the crown: “Light in. Clarity. I offer calm.” Leave a few heartbeats of quiet after each exhale. Longer out-breaths signal safety to the nervous system and open space for choice.
Walk with the ravens. When thought races, greet Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory). Say their names, note the message, and return to one breath. Meet the Norns with a three-bead check-in—Was / Is / May-be—one breath per bead to unhook from “if only” and “what if.” When the gnawing returns, Name–Frame–Tame: name the bite, frame it as a nervous-system surge, and lengthen the exhale to tame it. Sip from Mímir’s well by asking, “What do I already know helps?” then do a tiny version now.
Runic micro-practices: Ansuz for voice—exhale an easy “ah” to clear the channel. Eihwaz for axis—sit tall and breathe along the spine like a yew. Laguz for flow—extend each exhale by one count for five cycles. Trace a small bindrune (Ansuz+Eihwaz+Laguz) on your palm before difficult conversations.
Ritualize it: nine breaths at first light, three trunk breaths before email, a single line to Mímir at night: “What did my breath teach me today?” May your roots remember, your trunk be steady, and your branches generous.
