Are things getting better or worse? In the first half of this podcast, I explore the shifting spirit of our times - from the optimism of the post-WWII consensus to today’s economic struggles, mental health crisis, loss of community, and spiritual decline. We’ll cover: why the sense of progress has faltered The cost of living, ownership, and “neo-feudalism”; how community and belonging are breaking down; The rise of anxiety, depression, and spiritual emptiness; why carving out meaning and health is now an act of defiance. In the second half, I'll discuss why so many people today seem drawn to the idea of civil war - in the UK, the US, and across Europe? I explore why talk of conflict is rising, the psychology behind it, and the real dangers of this narrative. Having worked in post-conflict zones such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Cyprus, I know first-hand the devastation that comes with civil war.
