Ep. 286 - How to Mentor, Parent, and Coach Without the Fix-It Trap
Manage episode 500963883 series 2801769
What would happen if you started showing up like you — exactly as you are — were already enough?
In this episode of Empowering Her, I’m getting real about something I call “fix-it culture.” It’s the sneaky belief that we (or the people we love) are broken and need repairing before we can live our fullest lives. Spoiler alert: it’s an illusion — and it’s exhausting.
This conversation was sparked by a private coaching session where I kept hearing the phrase “fix it.” It got me thinking about how deeply this mindset is baked into our self-talk, parenting, and even our work as mentors and coaches. So today, we’re breaking it down and reframing it completely.
Here’s what we explore:
- The illusion of brokenness and how society trains us to believe we’re incomplete
- Why wholeness is our birthright — we are born with nothing missing and nothing wrong
- Swapping “fix it” language for “evolve” — the powerful shift from lack to growth
- A reflection on Coldplay’s Fix You and why love isn’t about repair
- The truth that we can’t “fix” anyone — not our kids, not our clients, not our friends
- How parents, coaches, and girls’ empowerment leaders can hold space without trying to solve or repair
- The impact of modeling self-love and personal evolution instead of perfection
- Reframe questions to try this week for yourself and the people you lead
And… I share a little teaser about Book Baby #3, coming out next week! This one is for children and the grown-ups who love them — a beautiful tool for connection you can share with the kids in your life.
