Welcome back to The Lobby Bar! This week, we're flipping the script on two iconic action franchises and our featured cocktail!
First, we talk about the sci-fi behemoth that just hit theaters, Predator: Badlands! Director Dan Trachtenberg once again reinvents the franchise, this time by making a young Predator outcast named Dek the hero. We discuss the epic, bloody hunt on a hostile alien world, his unexpected alliance with a Weyland-Yutani synthetic, and whether this Badlands story is a fresh direction for the Yautja mythology.
Then, the running starts! We gear up for the highly anticipated Edgar Wright-directed remake of Stephen King's dystopian thriller, The Running Man (2025), starring Glen Powell as Ben Richards. With its release just days away, we look at the hype, the star-studded cast (Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, Colman Domingo), and how this new version is a more faithful adaptation of the dark, savage novel.
Of course, no show is complete without a drink! We're mixing up a Reverse Martini (sometimes called an Upside-Down Martini). This sophisticated, lower-proof cocktail flips the classic ratio, making Dry Vermouth the star and the Gin the modifier. It’s the perfect, contemplative sipper for a week of cinematic chaos!
