It can be really difficult to isolate a specific instrument from a finished mix...and that's kind of the point! A mix is like a stew, it should taste like a stew - not like a bunch of individual ingredients. Wouldn't it be cool if you could isolate individual instruments of a finished mix and hear what they sound like solo'd? We thought so too! That's what we do in this episode.

You will learn:

  • How to decide between double tracking and quad tracking
  • How mixed drums sound and what big changes are made to the kick and snare
  • How to get wider, thicker, more interesting vocal mixes
  • How additional layers can help "fill in the cracks" of a mix
  • What unmixed vs mixed stems sound like

Artist: Dan Casagrande - Fading Away
