The nature of wildlife in this episode is directly inspired by real scientific research. Barramundi are a type of coastal fish that can live in both saltwater and freshwater. But as they’re only capable of breeding in saltwater, their expansion on Chiron is thankfully limited. Gale’s natural harpoon is also a real feature of a jellyfish-like creature on Earth.
