Young and the Restless sees Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is on a relentless revenge spree, causing mayhem in Genoa City. His seemingly baseless vendetta against Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) has been a storyline for over a year, with many characters expressing their discontent with Victor's unfounded accusations. Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) notably disagreed with Victor, recognizing that Jack risked his own life to save Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) from spiraling out of control.
Y&R sees Victor's animosity extends to Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), with plans to employ Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) to ruin Billy's life, much to the dismay of Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), Billy's ex-wife and mother to his children. In an attempt to meddle in his granddaughter Claire Grace Newman's (Hayley Erin) love life, Victor hires Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) to sabotage her relationship with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).
Young and Restless sees that despite the familial tension caused by Victor's incessant meddling, all Newman children, including Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), are managing to maintain a united front. However, Victor's influence continues to disrupt the harmony, even affecting Michael Baldwin (Christian Jules Leblanc), who falls under Victor's manipulative sway.
Young and the Restless fans have expressed their frustration with Victor's storyline, attributing it to poor writing by head writer Josh Griffith. The hope is that the return of producer Jill Farren Phelps will bring a refreshing change to Victor's character arc. Although Victor remains a fan-favorite, his current storyline is causing a stir among viewers, suggesting that the character is due for a much-needed reality check.
