When Worry Won’t Turn Off at Night
Manage episode 524483678 series 3671831
Nighttime worries won’t turn off? Learn how honest prayer and gratitude can turn anxious spirals into God’s peace that guards your heart and mind.
Ever had a night where your body is tired, but your mind refuses to shut off?
You lie in bed replaying conversations…
Running through worst-case scenarios…
Thinking about bills, work, kids, health, and a future that feels uncertain…
And the harder you try to stop worrying, the more your thoughts spiral.
In this episode, Bart shares the story of a young woman whose anxiety exploded at night just as she was stepping into a new season of life. On the outside, everything looked exciting. On the inside, she was unraveling. One night, at the end of herself, she slipped out of bed, dropped to her knees, and prayed one honest sentence: “God… I can’t carry this anymore.” That simple surrender became a turning point where God began to meet her with real peace.
Through her story and the truth of Philippians 4:6–7, you’ll see that God doesn’t just tell you not to worry, He gives you a way to bring your worry to Him. You’ll learn how turning anxious spirals into specific prayers, and pairing them with gratitude, can open the door to a peace that “guards your heart and mind” even when nothing around you has changed.
Main Scripture:
Philippians 4:6–7 (NLT) –
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:
- Why your mind tends to race most at night—and what to do with those thoughts
- How to turn worry into honest, simple conversation with God
- The role of gratitude in shifting your perspective and remembering God’s faithfulness
- A practical nighttime rhythm to invite God’s peace to guard your heart and mind
Today’s Challenge:
Tonight, when you lie down and your thoughts start to spiral:
- Pray honestly. Tell God exactly what’s on your mind—your fears about the future, your work, your family.
- Tell Him what you need. Ask specifically for His help, wisdom, provision, and peace.
- Thank Him for at least three things. Remember ways He has been faithful and present in your life.
- Instead of letting your mind run in circles, let those moments become a doorway to God’s presence and peace.
