Today we will finish reading the book of Jacob (James) with Chapters 3:3-18, Chapter 4:1-10, 13-17, and Chapter 5:1-9, and 13-19.
Today we will read about how our mouths are like double edged swords- both good and bad things come out of our mouths.
In our discussion for daily application we will talk about the big picture of how important it is to guard what we hear and see because they influence our thoughts. What we spend time thinking about becomes what is in our hearts. Jesus taught us that what is in our hearts overflows and comes out of our mouths. This leads us to today's reading of taking control of our tongues so that we don't say hurtful things. Hurtful words come from thinking judgmental thoughts about the person we are thinking about. Then we say those hurtful, judgmental, accusatory words. These words come from satan, whose name means "accuser." When we are accusing others we are doing satan's work. Instead, we need to be kind, forgiving, loving, thoughtful, like God and Jesus are! There are right ways to use our mouths and there are wrong ways to use our mouths. We need to work on using our mouths for building one another up, not tearing one another down.
