Timothy Ord is an award winning market analyst who has a proven track record of 35 years of market success. He is President, Editor, and Publisher of The Ord Oracle, which is an electronic advisory newsletter that recommends S&P, NASDAQ, and gold stock trades. Tim is frequently listed as one of the top-ten market timers in the country. Timer Digest ranked him the #1 gold timer for the one-year period ending January 13, 2006 as well as the #2 gold timer and the #5 S&P timer for 2004.

Show Notes

  • Tim's education in mathematics made him naturally inclined towards the quantitative aspects of trading, which technical analysis heavily relies on.
  • He emphasized the importance of volume in confirming price movements. High volume often indicates strong conviction behind a price move, whether up or down.
  • He stressed that making mistakes and experiencing losses are part of the learning process in trading.
  • Tim expresses a clear preference for candlestick charts over bar charts due to their visual clarity and ease of interpretation.
  • Tim explains his preference for trend trading over day trading. He believes that capturing longer-term trends offers better risk-reward opportunities compared to the rapid, high-frequency nature of day trading.
  • Tim discusses a long position he took on the S&P 500 in April, explaining his rationale based on technical indicators and market sentiment at the time.
  • He shares his current market outlook, noting the volume observations that led him to his present positions.
  • Tim elaborates on his use of the VIX (Volatility Index) as a gauge of market sentiment.
  • Tim talks about his market newsletter, which he publishes regularly.
