This week Samantha Bickham, a licensed therapist, joins me to talk about the intersections between therapy and tarot.

Samantha is a licensed mental health counselor certified in EMDR, specialising in Eating Disorders & Maternal issues. Her practice is based in Winter Park, Florida, USA.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Holding space for clients as a therapist and a tarot reader
  • Tarot and Therapy as a playground
  • What we do when clients want to outsource their decision-making to us
  • Humanising tarot readers and therapists - we're human too!
  • How tarot and therapy still remain taboo for some, and for different reasons
  • How to support clients during times of crisis and change
  • The potential of tarot to be used in therapy spaces, as a tool of reflection and a way to unlock new ways of discussing a situation or experience
  • How some things are really best left to the experts (therapists!)
  • We explore why some people may seek out one space rather than the other
  • The importance of therapy and tarot being neutral, non-judgemental spaces for clients to unpack and explore their lives and experiences

I appreciate Samantha's expertise and good humour. There have been frequent references to therapy and tarot throughout the season of the podcast, so it was time we got a therpaist in the confession booth to get an expert POV!
