Being an adoptee has its unique challenges and navigating the ups and downs of uncovering the truth about our adoption can be a wild ride.
Adoptees often struggle with unanswered questions, conflicting emotions, and a sense of not quite fitting in. We can also feel unsure about how to move forward on our discovery journey.
In this episode, I have an in-depth conversation with Patti Eddington, author of "The Girl with Three Birthdays." Patti shares her incredible journey of learning more about her birth family through DNA testing and all the twists, tough truths, and tall tales she discovered along the way!
Join us for our engaging conversation as we explore the complexities of being an adoptee and how she pieced together her past to find a little more wholeness.
Here’s what we discuss:

  • How DNA testing uncovered a surprising revelation about Patti’s biological family and prompted a deeper exploration of her adoption story.
  • The common experiences and emotions adoptees face.
  • Learning to pay attention to clues.
  • Why acknowledging and validating the traumatic aspects of adoption is important, even in the context of loving adoptive families.
  • The importance of setting healthy boundaries with birth families.
  • How writing her story helped her come out and embrace her authentic self.

So pop in those earbuds and listen to my candid conversation with Patti and learn how this experience has changed Patti’s life and her sense of personal identity.
Much love,
Laurie

About Patti:
Patti Eddington is a newspaper and magazine journalist whose favorite job ever was interviewing famous authors who came through town on book tours. She never dreamed of writing about her life because she was too busy helping build her husband’s veterinary practice, caring for her animal-obsessed daughter — whose favorite childhood toy was an inflatable tick — and learning to tap dance. Then fate — and a DNA test — led her to a story she felt compelled to tell.
