IT’S THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT FINOPS HEAD

As we continue to explore the fundamentals of FinOps as a practice, it is also important to know who is going to be responsible and accountable for it. It’s not enough to just let all the departments know about it, the organization has to put someone in charge of it. In this episode, Nick and Jason talk about who should lead the FinOps initiatives within the organization, and what he/she will be responsible and accountable for. Learn more in detail in this latest episode of Cloud Cost Optimization.

WORDS TO OPTIMIZE YOUR DAY

NICK: THE GENESIS OF YOUR FINOPS PRACTICE

“There is a person who is feeling the pressure of being a cost center and who is being asked questions about budget and changes to the budget that is necessary for driving business, or sometimes not known if they're necessary because it's hard to get the answer, who also knows personally, like, ‘Hey, I gotta have to hold people accountable out in the business, but it's really hard for me to do so because this environment is operationally my responsibility, but I'm getting hammered about its cost, and I don't really drive those or control those.’ That is the person who is probably going to be the genesis of your FinOps practice.”

NICK: IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT SAVING MONEY

“The reality is that for the person in the trenches, feeling the pressure, it's less about saving money, that's not really the approach. That's not what they're looking for, I need help saving money, what they're looking for is I really need help making sense of everything that's going on so I can hold everyone else accountable, get the monkey off my back.”
