A Clare representative for Aontú is calling for urgent reform to Ireland’s inheritance tax laws, saying they unfairly penalise people without children. June Dillon says she’s been contacted by single people — both young and old — who feel the current system puts them at a significant disadvantage when passing on property or assets to extended family. The issue was also raised in the Seanad by Aontú Senator Sarah O’Reilly, who pointed out the stark difference between tax-free thresholds for children versus nieces, nephews, or other relatives. To discuss the issue and what changes she’d like to see, Derrick Lynch was joined by June Dillon, Aontu Clare representative.
