On July 30, 2025, David and Susan Jeffcock — an elderly couple from Whitby, North Yorkshire — walked hand in hand up the 199 steps to East Cliff. They paused at the edge of the world, the ruins of Whitby Abbey behind them and the North Sea stretching endlessly ahead.
Then, in a final act of devotion, they stepped off the cliff together.
